ADVENT
Advent is a season of penitence, preparation, and anticipation for the Christ who came and will come again! As a child, as the One known as a sovereign ruler, Christ comes, God's gift to all people. During Advent we prepare for this sacred celebration in ways that are both personal and corporate. One of the ways we prepare together is by lighting the candles of the Advent wreath (a circle of greens), a symbol of our eternal promise. As we light the three purple or blue candles and one pink candle (3rd Sunday) each Sunday during the season of Advent our focus is on the increasing and coming crescendo of light as we approach the celebration of Christ's birth. The white candle (Christ candle) is lit with the other four on Christmas to remind us that Jesus has come as the light of the world.
We will be using the Advent candle to
remind us of the season and of His coming as we use liturgies and special Advent
hymns to add more to our celebration of the season of expectancy and wonder in
the Child of Bethlehem on Christmas eve....
