Dr. Gram opens the luncheon
|
A Stone House Day Homeowners Luncheon was held on March 15th:
A special luncheon for the owners of Hurleys stone houses was held this afternoon, as a means of better communicating with the homeowners regarding our Stone House Day activities.
Invitations were sent to stone house homeowners and members of the Stone House Day Committee, plus a few special guests.
Thirty-five people attended.

Gary Bellows, Hurley Town Supervisor | |
James Craven arranged and hosted the luncheon. Dr. Gram opened the meeting with his observations of arriving in the stone house neighborhood from his perspective as a newcomer to the area.
Gary Bellows, the Hurley Town Supervisor, was a guest speaker at the event.
Jon McGrew gave a presentation regarding the behind-the-scenes making of the Stone House Day event, explaining, for instance, how we market and advertise the event.

Chef Russell Glass prepared a luncheon for the group that was representative of what is being planned for the Stone House Day event in July.
This luncheon provided a good opportunity for the event planners to be able to give some information to the homeowners as to how they are being supported,
and we heard some ideas from the homeowners as to what might make the Stone House Day event even better.
March 3rd:
The Brooks BBQ Dinner was held this evening, to a sell-out crowd.
The event was so successful that we unfortunately had to end up turning away some people who had not made advance reservations—we simply ran out.
We are sorry that those people could not be accommodated.
Many thanks to the Brooks crew for their wonderful dinners, and to the many Hurley Reformed Church volunteers
who made everything work so well.
The Brooks crew produced over 800 dinners this evening!
By any measure, it was a wildly popular evening. Yum!
Aromatic smoke filled the sky above the parking lot as dinners for 800 were being lovingly grilled throughout the afternoon.
…Some potatoes with that?

Sunday, March 1st: Happy Birthday, Lily!:
The Hurley Church Family sends its birthday greetings, regards, and love to Dr. Grams daugher Lily,
who today turned 13. Dr.Gram told us of this milestone during the morning announcements, and
cake was served in Schadewald Hall following the service.
Maritime Aquarium Trip:
Fifty-six adults and youth traveled with the Youth Group
to sleep with the otters at the Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk, Connecticut,
for an overnight field trip on February 21–22.
Valentines Day Meatball Amoré:
The Valentines Day Spaghetti Dinner was held on Saturday to a sell-out crowd.
The volunteers served 255 dinners.
But this was much more than a mere spaghetti dinner; this was
antipasto featuring oven-roasted tomato and grilled asparagus,
marinated zucchini and roasted red peppers with a balsamic glaze and parmesan cheese,
warm garlic bread,
dressed italian salad,
then spaghetti with red sauce and Roma-style meatballs,
and finishing with homemade old-fashioned apple crisp with vanilla ice cream.
You see, we had Chef Russell Glass handling the dinner for us this year. Yum!
The Valentines Day spirit was in the air as two sold-out seatings enjoyed a great dinner,
prepared by an enthusiastic church staff under the direction of Chef Glass.
Dick Morone was on hand to serenade us with Italian love songs, accompanied by Lonnie Kulick at the keyboard.
A great time—and a great meal—was enjoyed by all.

Thank you to all of the many people who helped to make this event a success,
working with meal preparation and cleanup, ticket sales and handling,
table service, and music.
Columbarium Update:
The Columbarium Committee met with a representative of the Creter Company on
July 22, 2008 and the columbarium has been ordered.
Work on the patio and holding wall began at the end of August.
A small fountain and two stone benches are also being purchased for the patio.
Phase I should be completed by mid-October.
